Jeeva & Shareera

Q. What is the difference among Aatma, Jeeva-Aatma and Deha ?

This is an interesting question. To answer this, we need clear idea about the difference in the three terms : Aatma, Jeeva-Aatma and Deha and then to put it into Nadi astrological context.

  • Aatma - The pure consciousness. It is a holographic unit of the cosmic consciousness. Its area of operation is very wide and almost beyond the reach of human mind. Besides its many pursuits in different dimensions, its manifestation in the world is merely of exploratory nature.
    • Because astrology being largely dealing with mundane subjects, the pure Atma remains practically beyond the scope.
  • Jeevatma - During incarnation in the world, Atma gets embedded with body and the operator of the body, the Mind. This is the practical form of consciousness that we are concerned as we explore astrology.
  • Deha - means the body through which the Jeevatma functions.

Now, when we find the astrological significators for above, we have following provisions in some of the books of Nadi astrology.

The above is focused on the ascendant for the purpose of finding general tendency of life flow. The same way it can be applied for other houses as well. The primary process here is to find the aspect of consciousness and its functions in the material world.

What way it could be interpreted? Let us understand with an illustration :

What way it could be interpreted? Let us understand with an illustration :

In Meena Lagna, the lord of lagna, Jupiter is placed in Meethuna sign in 12th house. Mercury being the lord of Meethuna will therefore, become Jeeva Planet of the lagna. That means the consciousness, the Jeevatma (which is embed in the body-mind combo) shows prime interest into intellectual fields represented by Mercury.

If we follow simple Parashari astrology we may think of only Jupiterian attributes to Lagnesh being Jupiter.

We can see that the Jeevatma, Mercury is placed in Aquarius sign and hence, Saturn becomes Sareera which is exalted in 8th house and aspected by Mars.

So, we can infer that the consciousness of the native will be intellectually exploring metaphysical subjects (Jeeva ain 12th)and will be interested in sharing the knowledge to others (Mercury) and will enjoy a long life (Sat exalted in mutual exchange with Venus) with zeal and enthusiasm (aspect of Mars).

Had we followed general rules of astrology, we would not have considered involvement of Mars.

It would be better if we apply the following (Nadi astrology) Karakatva of different planets with the house under scrutiny.

  • Jupiter = Jeeva
  • Saturn = Karma
  • Sun = Status
  • Moon = Mind
  • Mars = Bio Energy
  • Mercury = Buddhi, skills
  • Venus = Bhoga, Pleasures and comforts

However, when we apply the above Nadi concept of Jeeva and Deha, some questions may arise e.g., Why Jupiter did not have any say? Why lagna itself loses its characteristics? Why Moon is not contributing in the traits of psyche of the Jeevatma?
